Ten jugbirds

My day ended better than it started. On a wet wet wet day I gloomily looked at my clay and wondered what to make first, and procrastinated! I started on some more regular earthenware jugbird bodies and that’s a good thing – because a late afternoon email from Melissa at the Gallery of BC Ceramics arrived. As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog I was dying to know what people thought of the new, bigger Woodpecker. It turns out that he has already flown to Ohio! and the Flicker has sold too. Now I will make up some of the regular sized jugbirds but will also start on another bigger Woodpecker, tomorrow. My mood has changed completely!

Here then, are the ten jugbirds I delivered to the Gallery of BC Ceramics and to Circle Craft just over a week ago. Some customers look for specific birds, but others like my totally random coloured ones. On those I can put together unlikely combinations of coloursĀ and yes, I do like green!

As I work on the next batch I’d love to hear suggestions on which birds to make. June just phoned me and wonders if I could make bigger Flickers. Photos of her two plates from our TriCity Potters’ plate-painting session will now be added to that blog. She fired her plates to cone six and my earthenware slips look fine under a medium stoneware clear glaze.
