Mount Pleasant
I like the colours on these buildings

After I had attended the two artist’s talks at Burrard Art Foundation on Broadway last Saturday I noodled around Main Street for a while. I’ve been looking for a chance to see some of the local murals. They really are a charming way to brighten up bare brick or concrete walls. IMG_5114

Some are almost a block long so I used the video capability on my iPhone to capture a couple of them.

Now I am being asked who the artists are and the website below gives some information. But I wasn’t able to find all the murals I’d seen, and I am astonished to find how many of these jolly murals there are in this sometimes gritty, but fast gentrifying area of Mount Pleasant. Quite obviously I need to take another afternoon and a good map to find many more.

One painted bin. I wish more were.

Enjoy this little collection of photos and comment below if you like one in particular or can add artists’ names. I am sorry I haven’t been able to do that, except for one.

Port Moody has a number of empty walls which would really benefit from this colourful initiative. Its few murals are looking very tired now. Who will take up the challenge for our ‘City of the Arts’?
