Even though I’ve made jugbirds since 2003 it seems people still expect me to have some on hand. So I started my minimal production of 2026 by throwing half a dozen jugbird bodies. It takes several days to add spouts/beaks and eyes, paint with coloured slips, dry and then bisque fire them. Here is the current flock. Someone has asked for a Pileated Woodpecker. They are a fiddle to paint!
Just because I enjoy it, I also threw shapes that insist on being carved. Even with my ever-more arthritic fingers I really enjoy time spent carefully carving those parallel lines.
I was testing a new box of SNOW white earthenware and a new clear glaze so made wee test cups and a strata pot for fun.
If you feel any of these pots need a home with you, get in touch, OK?
This time I asked Clive Tucker for use of his kiln for the bisque and glaze firings. Thanks Clive! There were some slab plates made with the white SNOW clay in the bisque firing so now I have some bisqued and bone dry plates all ready for the first ‘Raid’ in our new house. I’m looking forward to welcoming my artist friends here on Monday for the day.
A reminder for TriCity Potters.. don’t forget to bring up to five special pots to PoMoArts between 4 and 5.30pm on Wednesday for jury selection/quality control for our upcoming show at Place des Arts in April. During the evening we’ll take a look at all the entries.
