This year’s Circle Craft Christmas Market is over. I attended this fabulous event on Wednesday afternoon with the intention of finding all the ceramics people and posting my photos. It was so good to connect with longtime clay friends and meet the new folks, but I’m sorry I failed to get information out there before the show ended so that you could be inspired to check out all their work. Life interferes! But perhaps you’ll see some displays that appeal to you and you can go to the potter’s website. Under each photo you’ll see a name.
This is going to take a couple of blogs to show you all the potters. I think I found twenty-seven! and of course I enjoyed many other Crafts and foods.
I found Denman Island’s Gordon Hutchens demonstrating on the wheel. Later we had a good conversation about the clay community and concerns about the future of ceramics education here in BC. As always his booth was filled with a variety of his splendid pieces.
Cathi Jefferson’s booth was mind-boggling. When does she find the time to make, decorate and salt/soda-fire so many elegant pieces? I’m so impressed by all the artists who prepare for this six-day event each year and who then spend time with all of us. But I do enjoy the chance to spend a little time with potters I’ve known forever and see their latest work.
Laura Van der Linde’s wonderfully colourful ware had me stop for a while. No, I mustn’t buy any more but I hope many others did. Take a look.
I found Elaine Brewer White right at the beginning of my day and took just one photo of her with her amazing humorous sculptures. At that point I thought I could restrict myself to one photo per artist!
Below I’ll post photos of each booth, with the artist’s name below. Please let me know if I’ve made any mistakes. It was very good to see all the different techniques on display.
I think that’s enough booths to admire for one blog. Another will follow, with photos of the rest of the clay people, as well as a couple of other makers I particularly admired.
Meanwhile, plan to visit the Potters Guild of BC’s ‘Earth, Fire & Form‘ at the Italian Cultural Centre. The show celebrates the organization’s 70 years. I have had three pieces selected.
The Opening Reception is on Thursday November 27th 7-9pm. Italian Cultural Centre 3075 Slocan St Vancouver BC V5M 3E4 Canada
Jenna does amazing work in Porcelain. She basis her work on Moon Jars as she is of Korean heritage. She has incredibly translucent pieces in Polar Ice porcelain. They are so thin and pierced to a degree it is difficult to imagine them surviving the kiln. As a relatively new potter she is amazing.
