I was unable to attend the most recent opening at Visual Space Gallery on Dunbar street in Vancouver. But long-time friend and clay enthusiast Jan Kidnie lives near the gallery and made time to pop in to see the show. She sent me these photos and has given me permission to share them here.

When Tam Irving had a show in the same gallery last summer we were told that he had finished working with clay and that those were the last ceramic pieces he’d show.

Now there are just one or two on plinths to complement his paintings on the walls, and the collage pieces by co-exhibitor Ilze Bebris.

I do enjoy seeing the ‘loops’ of the show’s title in the collage work of Ilze Bebris. They form a delightful contrast and complement to Tam’s splendid hard-edge modernist paintings. I’m sorry Jan and I don’t have titles for any of the work in this show, so you’ll need to visit the gallery to see all the work. The show is on until September 10th 2022. 

Tam Irving & Sally Michener

What a treat it is to see that Tam’s Emily Carr Ceramics colleague for many many years, Sally Michener, was able to attend the opening. And Jan was pleased to find potter Jobst Frohberg there. 

Thank you for stepping in to be a guest blogger for Tam’s show, Jan. You took good photos. I would have liked to have joined you and seen the work of both artists and said hello to them and their guests. It does look to be a delightful and interesting show of work by these two artists.
