A Raid, new email and Christmas preparations

Three artists, Renée, Monique and Marlene, were here yesterday for the final ‘Raid’ of 2018. They had a quiet relaxing day concentrating on painting their platters. Renée has completed two of her abstract collage images, Marlene completed work on a pair of platters she’d started earlier and then painted a pair of dishes depicting food and Monique spent her time on a delicate image of overlapping circles. I am looking forward to seeing how these look after the glaze firing.

I didn’t photograph the group this time but must note that we had a very good Winter lunch. There was an egg/potato dish, prosciutto, lentil salad, cheeses, bread and crackers.

Meanwhile things have been rather stressful in our house lately because Al and I opted to accept an offer to switch from Shaw to Telus now that high speed fibre-optics have been brought to Port Moody. The new deal involves our internet service, TV channels, service for our home phone and our cell phones and even our house security. You can imagine how many electronic gizmos have been installed and that we have to get used to. One hiccup is that I can no longer use my longtime email address. So please make a note that you can now reach me at       gillianmcmillanpotter@gmail.com

There were a number of cell phone and laptop glitches resulting from the change and I mentioned this to TriCity potter (and newly elected President of the group) Ronald Boersen at our monthly coffee gathering at Gallery Bistro last Wednesday. The upshot is that he and Ofer came over on Saturday and spent some hours helping me out. On Monday afternoon, while my guests continued painting Ronald returned to finish work on my computer. He certainly earned his tea and a little soda pot! Thank you so much Ronald. I’m getting used to the changes and think my phone and laptop now talk to each other as they should.

Our day ended with Ronald joining the painters over more tea, explaining that his pottery is taking a back seat to his current PhD studies at SFU. He is also a musician and his studies involve digital sounds and mathematics. Much more is difficult for me to explain!

Today Al and I have been preparing our house to welcome TriCity Potters for their annual Christmas party and potluck supper tomorrow evening.  I’m glad it isn’t forecast to be a frosty evening. Look for the blue tree lights outside our house!

I’ll end this blog with a photo of our multi-ethnic Christmas tree and a little decoration I made. I filled a glass jar with soft clay and placed it in a little cedar woven basket made by my weaver friend Gitte for this purpose many years ago. Greenery from my garden and some decorations stick in the clay very well.

It’ll probably be Thursday before I get the new plates glazed, but I must make sure I get that firing done soon. Grandson Lucas painted some little plates.
