Medicine Hat

This seems like a really good day to revive a habit I had before parenthood, writing a diary. Sometimes I’ve kept a journal on interesting trips and now it’s called blogging. It may be that potters, some friends and my family will be interested in my stream-of-consciousness writing. Please comment if you like.

Today my husband Al drove me to YVR, Vancouver airport to catch a plane to Calgary. After I’d sent my bags ahead we stopped by the Crafthouse BC Crafts shop in domestic departures to leave another 6 jugbirds.

it was a very small plane..

After Calgary I travelled on to MH in a tiny plane. Short flight, maybe 1/2 hr over clouds and surprisingly green fields until I spotted the meandering South Saskatchewan River. Les Manning met me and took me to MH college residences. I have my own room in a flat for 4. Two other Medalta Artists in Residence are there too: Joanne from Vancouver and Brenda from Toronto. Joanne drove us to Safeway to stock up on groceries. Next door are Jin from Virginia and Luanne from Calgary. No internet in our rooms… but I have walked over to the student community room so that should work in my evenings.

Tomorrow morning at 9am Artistic Director Aaron Nelson will pick us up and take us to Medalta for our orientation and we shall begin an exciting June as 14 Artists in Residence there. My two boxes of tools, a piece for a resident’s show and some bisqued pots for salt-firing have already arrived courtesy of Greyhound. So the adventure begins!
