Photos of ‘Table Salt’

Saturday found Alan and me in Vancouver again and it was a good chance to take a closer look at the current show at the Gallery of BC Ceramics, ‘Table Salt’. Here is the invitation showing the artists involved.

Each artist had a wall display to distinguish their distinctive styles of work and in the rest of the space their pieces were displayed together. Rather than describe each person’s pots I’ll post my photos of the show. If you run your cursor over the image a description will appear.

We were most impressed at how many pieces had sold, probably at the opening the week before, and it was also interesting to see that it was almost entirely other potters who had done the shopping.

We joined the trend, purchasing a largish jug by Vincent Massey. Its surface was very much like the sort of effects I was happy to have produced in Medalta two years ago now.

And as we left I was unable to resist adding a Sheila Morissette vase, also salty, to our collection!

My ‘best-in-show’ choice is the large Vincent Massey bowl with swoopy edges, rich blue orange-peel and sea-shell marks in the centre where other pieces rested over it in the firing.
