Family Time

It’s been a long time since I wrote a blog so this will be a catch-up to explain! Pottery has been almost completely ignored as I concentrated in getting our house and garden all tickety-boo for the long-awaited visit of my sister Mary and brother-in-law John from England. Al and I rearranged some 15 paintings to make room for the vast Australian painting and the Allen Sapp. I tried to get the garden under control and most fun of all I watched craftsman Nick remove ancient concrete walkway and install elegant (concrete) bricks for a new and level patio.

The City of Port Moody asked me to send them photos of the house for a brochure they’re producing on Heritage House tax benefits so I was reminded of how nice the house can look when the sun shines!

Here is a link to a Picasa album I’ve assembled on the holiday the Newmans had here in BC. John and Mary’s son, daughter-in-law and grand-daughter joined us from their home in New York city.

Meanwhile our 2 sons and daughter-in-law spent a week of their holidays hiking the legendary West Coast Trail from Bamfield to Port Renfrew on the west coast of Vancouver Island. I was anxious to hear that they were safely back without injuries!

As soon as some of our guests left for New York another guest arrived. Vince Pitelka stayed with us again while he taught a ‘Clay Surfaces’ workshop at the Shadbolt Centre. We enjoyed pottery talk and he was interested in Alan’s collection of SouthWestern pottery. On his last evening here some of the TriCity Potters and others joined us for a happy potluck supper. Vince delighted us with his accomplished guitar-playing and singing of traditional folk songs. Quite lovely!

His visit inspired me to get back to my studio – that and rain. John and Mary took 7 jug birds to England to deliver to Primavera in Cambridge and I need to make another group to take when I go over there in September – a loon for sure, and?
