Circle Craft 40th Anniversary Show

To celebrate forty years of promoting and celebrating Fine Crafts in BC, Circle Craft Co-op invited longtime members who work in clay to be part of a special show. I remember visiting their Christmas Craft Fair when it was held at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre (the Cultch), meeting some artists who are still members and enjoying my first taste of carrot cake! I have watched the organization as it has grown from its Victoria beginnings to now, when it has a wonderful location on Granville Island. Visitors from around the world can find the best of BC Crafts right across from the fabulous Food Market.

I am honoured to have been juried in shortly after my graduation from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design (as it was then) and although my production is not the volume that it was I value the privilege of having my jugbirds displayed and sold alongside some amazing work.

The two photographs with this little entry are of work by clay artists Mary Fox and Judy Burke, both of whom make masses of utterly practical and beautiful functional ware but who also take the time to work on large impressive sculptures.

Congratulations Circle Craft on your first 40 years!
