Clay cutters are ready!

This rainy weather has given me a chance to catch up on studio work. The twelve jugbirds ordered by Crafthouse YVR several weeks ago are now painted with slip. On Saturday I finished the bases with terra sigillata and loaded them in to the kiln for the bisque firing. I’ve made some more thrown plate moulds as I somehow managed to leave a couple in Williams Lake. I’ll need them to make plates for the next ‘artist raid’ and for a promised tile and plate-painting session for TriCity Potters in August. It’ll be good to see how the bevelled edges of the forms work with the clay cutter.

Yesterday our sons joined us for a Fathers Day meal at our local ‘Burrard Public House’. It was surprisingly not busy but we were told that the morning’s brunch was. Steve brought over the finished clay cutters. Just as I find when making my jugbirds he found that they took far longer to cut out and finish than he had expected! Now I’ll get the cutters that have been ordered in the mail this week. Kirsten, Lesley, Alan and Joan, I’ll mail them to Lesley and she can bring them in to Cariboo Potters studio.

I’ll take the others to our meeting on Wednesday, TriCity Potters. Looking forward to gathering for our last meeting of the year, on Wednesday June 18th, 7pm, in Port Moody Arts Centre, not at PM Senior Secondary School. It’s been convenient and affordable to hold our meetings at the High School but I think it will be more comfortable to meet in the Arts Centre in future. By taking out a Group Membership in the Arts Centre we are entitled to hold meetings there once a month with no further charge. We are hoping that this will foster a better connection between us and the folks who attend the clay drop-in and classes there. Today has been a glaze-seiving, kiln-emptying, glazing and repacking the kiln kind of day. Now the jugbirds and three plates intended for the Arts Centre fundraiser in the Fall are gently drying out from the glazing and will fire overnight. There’s also a vibrant little vase painted by Eric so he’ll be happy to see that soon. P1000967 Hummingbirds have been delighting us by visiting our new feeder. P1000976
