Kiln opening

On Wednesday I was able to empty a very full kiln load. My pieces were on the top shelf and all the lower shelves were filled with twenty plates painted by my recent ‘raiders’. In the next day or two I’ll post nice photos Al took in our light box of all the work.

Yesterday I packed up all the plates and took them in to the Western Front, en route to the opening at the Gallery of BC Ceramics. I like to make sure I do at least two errands when I drive in to Vancouver. Eric made me a nice cuppa while I spread the plates out on his dining/work table. We agreed that this group is really strong. Everybody had used the process to produce bold paintings.

This month’s ceramic show marks the BC Potters Guild’s Sixtieth Anniversary so is titled ‘Celebrations’. All members of the guild were invited to submit three pieces of their work that they felt was somewhat celebratory. The resulting show has work that is larger, bolder and possibly more fun than usual. Next blog will show some pieces I selected to photograph. I entered two salty vases with a central hole to steady the flowers (I rushed to the Granville Island market and bought tulips) and a larger than usual non-functional bird.

The gallery carries the work of over a hundred BC potters. Here is my shelf yesterday.

On the home front we’re looking forward to our grandson Caleb’s second birthday tomorrow. We’ll celebrate on Easter Sunday. Here he is with his Dad and Uncle Mike and grandfather Al the other day.
