I asked local potter Pauline Doyle to help me to lift the shelves into my kiln on Tuesday. The glazing had gone well but I knew that loading the fairly heavy shelves into the kiln would be silly. How lucky am I that the Port Moody Arts Centre where Pauline happened to be working that day is only two blocks away? Thanks Pauline for giving a fellow potter half an hour of your time.

The glaze firing was still too hot to open on Thursday so we didn’t see the results until yesterday. Now Al has photographed all the plates and my most recent jugbirds.

I’ll post images of Eric’s two and Mina’s four here, and Marlene’s many shoe plates in a separate blog.

Eric jumped right in and drew out his planned design with a flexible drafting tool, producing quite a new direction for his colourful work. His two oval plates were pre-painted with sage and yellow slips.

Mina is much more relaxed in applying the underglazes, thoroughly enjoying the bold colours she chooses and making sure to paint the undersides with surprising red or orange. The little triangular dish was still leather hard so I explained that one can apply my coloured slips at that stage. She liked the dark grey and the fact that slips can stay a little raised.
