When the Raiders were here just over a week ago they took home their plates from the previous Raid. I’ll post photos of those plates in two blogs.
In this first one you’ll see Eric Metcalfe’s one traditional oval plate, with his signature colours painted over a sage green background. It’s wonderful to see the careful drawing and then watch the considered areas of tones appear. That red line is just right!
The other five plates were painted over two sessions by Renée Van Halm. She chose a variety of shapes; a little triangular one, three squarish ones and a new rimless one with a foot, that I made for her specially.
The patterns are all based on collages in her sketch book which she carefully replicates onto the plate forms. Renée really understands how to apply underglazes, to produce pleasing, bold paintings. I love them!
