I opened the glaze kiln this morning and am happy with the results. There are sixteen new plates, one re-fire (a little speck of kiln wash had fallen on one last time) and just one piece of mine. The next firing will be a new group of my jugbirds.
Alan has, as usual, taken good photos in our booth so I’ll post them in three separate blogs.
First, here are the plates painted by Renée Van Halm and Monique Fouquet. Four are the coupes, with no rim, and Monique’s bigger one was made using a thrift-store platter Renée found. Since the group were here I’ve thrown a new plate mould which will produce an oval serving dish with no rim (as the painters seem to prefer). We’ll see.
The underglazes have behaved themselves nicely on the new work. Renée seems to know exactly how much colour to apply to achieve the bold, occasionally 3-dimensional effects on her plates.
Monique’s galactic vision on the platter is really effective. I love it!
And I also like the soft warm layers on grey on her plate.
Next blog will feature plates painted by Eric and Marlene.
