Plates and a SHUFFLE

Mina

The most recent Raiders to my studio have had to wait a few weeks to see the results of their painting day. I needed to finish a special order for the end of the month. As it turned out the kiln was perfectly full, with nothing left out.

So here are the plates from Mina, Michelle and Pierre (see my blog from May https://www.gillianmcmillan.com/2018/05/14/more-painted-plates/).

Below are just a few of my pieces. There were some other test pieces which I haven’t documented.

Mina painted another of her favourite square plates, this time with vibrant orange. Her large platter is interesting underneath so I’ve included a photo of top and bottom.

Pierre continued his experiments with black and white painting on a series of large round plates. If you look carefully you’ll see A, B and C. Anxious to see how they turned out Pierre popped by here on Sunday on his way to see the Ben Reeves show at Evergreen Cultural Centre.

Michelle enjoyed herself as usual with tartan-like designs on a platter and a round plate, a gentle cloud formation image on another platter and finished her day with jolly colours on a tiny triangular dish.

My pieces are two jugbirds and two bird mugs. The Goldfinch mug is a custom order for a birthday gift and I’m pleased to have heard that it arrived in Indianapolis on the day before the recipient’s birthday. And she likes it!

I am working on an order of ten jugbirds for Crafthouse YVR as well as an effort to produce a selection of new work for ‘Shuffle’. That is a new Port Moody Art Walk which will take place on Friday June 22nd, from 5.30pm to 9pm. My studio is included in a small stroll which takes in the Arts Centre, Clarke street galleries, Esplanade Art studios and a number of other pop-up venues. Here are the details:

You’ll see that my studio is #1 on the map. I intend to offer visitors first dibs on some mugs, yunomis, vases and jugs from the recent soda firing and show my special new Pope’s Hat plate. Come and see what I get up to in my well-equipped studio. I’ve worked and taught out of it for over forty years! If it’s a warm evening you may like to wander around our garden before walking or driving to the other ‘Shuffle’ venues.
