GROWTH: Fraser Valley Potters Guild Association Annual Juried Show 2019

On May 2nd five members of TriCity Potters drove out to Surrey for the opening of Fraser Valley Potters’ annual show. Barbara Tipton was invited to be this year’s juror and she was keen to see how her selected show looked in the fine new Kwantlen Polytechnic University Art Gallery. She and I joined Carlene, Eliza and Kay for the drive. All three also belong to FVPG.

I took photos of some work that immediately appealed to me, and I could have taken many more. The usual mug wall was full of interesting small pieces which could be bought and taken home straight away. It was good to reconnect with several long-time Fraser Valley friends and see what they are producing nowadays.

Ying Yueh Chuang

Kay Bonathan ‘Personal Growth’ Hon Mention

Soon it was time for the presentation of awards. A KPU official thanked the guild for organizing a fine show, and then congratulated KPU Ceramics instructor Ying Yueh who was just recently selected as the best teacher! She is a well-respected and imaginative ceramics leader who also encourages her students to take part in Fraser Valley Potters Guild activities. Several of her students won awards in this current show.

Then Barbara took over the presentation of certificates to prize winners and honourable mention recipients. If anyone would care to send me a note I will add names to the photos of these people.

The show will remain up until May 30th so if you’re in Surrey in the next two weeks, take a moment to see what is being produced by members of this very busy potters’ guild.
