Fireplace Tile Project

Back in early December I made 75+ tiles for a fireplace surround in a Courtney house. It was a tricky arithmetical challenge because I wanted to choose a tile size that would not require any to be cut to fit in the space, but clay shrinks. Gillian McMillan combines a true love for birds, a fine eye for colour, hands which have learnt to mould clay, and a free-flying imagination ready to form a bird into a jug, or a jug into a bird. Either way, the combination of bird form and jug shape is without pretence.
