Time to start throwing

Found some other potters who were driving down to Medalta. The walk is 3/4hr and I wanted to save my energy!

We all found our clay at our studio spaces. I’ve chosen H550 to start and a half bag of something they recommend for wood-firing. The salt-fired sample looked interesting.  I arranged ware shelf, table, shimp wheel etc. and merely threw 6 large mugs. Sat outside in delicious sunshine for lunch sandwich. Am told there’s a vast bull snake in residence again this year. They discourage rattlesnakes! Threw 6 tumblers with the darker clay and things dry so fast that I was able to stamp with texture and apply handles to the mugs before 6pm.

Enough for today. Younger, I hate to admit, artists will be working there into the night. I want to keep myself rested and healthy to take full advantage of this super opportunity. Happy I was, throwing even boring old mugs again..

Also happy because an email from Paul Yard of Circle Craft announced that I have been awarded a grant to cover my Residency expenses – studio, accomodation and the flight. Wonderful!
