Various Vases

Every once in a while we challenge the members of TriCity Potters to make something they may not ordinarily do. Then we display them and discuss them. We’ve undertaken handles, butter dishes, bowls, candle holders and now containers for flowers. For this year’s challenge we’ve secured a show time at Burnaby Arts Council’s Deer Lake Art Gallery, had 44 pieces entered and now, tomorrow the show opens!

The show will continue until Saturday December 15th, 2012 and is open Tues – Sun noon – 4pm.

When the various vessels were delivered to my studio it seemed like a good idea to ask my long-suffering husband Alan to take a photo of each piece so we now have a fine Picasa album of them all! Take a browse through to see the big variety of shapes the potters have designed for holding flowers, whether as a vase, a planter, tulipiere or bonsai. I’m sure that, along with the 2D paintings and drawings of Sophie St. Pierre and her friends on the gallery walls we’ll have a most interesting show. See you there tomorrow!

One member brought her entries in to our meeting on Wednesday and sadly for her the show was already being installed. So thank you for bringing them in Gerda Krause, we enjoyed your shapes and glazes.

My entry for this show is a vase I had fired on the top shelf of the Shadbolt soda/salt kiln last year. Another idea I have made is bisque-fired and waiting for the next salt – soon!
