This afternoon I took six jugbirds down to Clarke street in Old Port Moody. The Gallery Bistro there, run by Helen and Rainer Daniels, is hosting the first show of work by ‘Inlet Artists’. A couple of months ago we showed photographs of the hands of Port Moody art-makers here, on the walls of Port Moody Library. The hands belong to painters, wood-workers, musicians, and me, a potter. Now we’ve decided to show those photos and some more alongside the work we were making. The pot I started when Tracy Riddell came to my studio last year became a Pileated Woodpecker jugbird, so it and some more will be displayed in Gallery Bistro for much of May. Here is the invitation. Do pop down to Clarke street to see a selection of the many forms of art-making in this city.
When I opened the kiln on Friday my pieces were on the top shelf, but the rest of the shelves were filled with plates and platters by my latest group of visiting artists. The next blog will show their work.
New amongst my few pieces are two silly Pileated Woodpecker mugs, one specially ordered from the States, a jolly Red, Yellow & Green Jugbird and a basket experiment based on some I saw in the video of Verwood Pottery in Dorset.
The Red, Yellow, Green Jugbird will join the PW Jugbird, a Magpie, Rufous-sided Towhee, a Goldfinch and one Salty Jugbird at Gallery Bistro.
As there is no ArtWalk here this year this is your chance to see some of my new pieces. Now I’ll need to get busy in my studio again for the Airport and Granville Island galleries. Also I am preparing to travel up to Williams Lake for May 16th to 19th to give a workshop to the Cariboo Potters Guild.
