Contemporary Ceramic Collective

On Monday June 8th I joined several other members of the BC Potters’ Guild at the Gallery of BC Ceramics for the launch of Contemporary Ceramic Collective. New board member Kathleen McGiveron is the energetic promoter of this new Guild initiative. The idea is that membership of this collective is juried and is intended to bring emerging and established clay artists together for critiques and mutual support in a variety of ways, including group shows, sales and social events. There is no extra fee for membership but members must belong to BC Potters Guild. Here is the website for further information.

Pottery guilds and clubs outside of Vancouver have long offered these kinds of mutual support, talks, shows, sales and socializing but I’ve often heard complaints that the umbrella organization, BC Potters Guild, doesn’t often organize social gatherings and critiques for Vancouver residents. So perhaps this will fill that gap and folks who participate in this new group will find it helpful. P1060065

My photos show some of the participants at the launch evening.

While I was there I enjoyed seeing the current show RIFF, the subject of my previous blog.

Afterwards I was pleased have a little supper with fellow TriCity Potters members Linda and Maria at Granville Island’s ‘Cat’s Meow’.

On a local note, members of TriCity Potters, please don’t forget that we have our monthly meeting at Port Moody Arts Centre tomorrow night at 7pm. There will be lots of time for discussions and summer break planning. We shall have one of our popular sessions when members bring along a piece to show us all. Kay will coordinate the conversations on any work you care to show. It can be a piece you are pleased with, or that isn’t quite what you’d hoped, or it can be something you’ve acquired. Let’s share our thoughts on each one, and then end the season’s meetings with a special cake!

Meetings recommence on the third Wednesday in September, the 16th.
