The other two artists who had freshly fired plates to take home yesterday were Renée Van Halm and Monique Fouquet. Renee had painted a rather large platter (which we made from a found metal lamp shade!). It’s spectacular. I think I’m going to be asked to make one of those again..

Her other piece is a practical bowl, also very clearly a Van Halm design.

I’m fascinated by this boldly painted squarish plate by Monique. The scientific form is partially obscured by a swirl of smoke.

And look at what’s going on in the next plate. There’s a limited palette but the overlaid lines are perfect! Opening the kiln to see the results of work done in my studio is one of the reasons I so enjoy hosting ‘raiders’ here.

One day soon I must get some more white earthenware and more big bottles of Speedball underglaze. Dark blue and red brown have been requested. The Raiders had better keep coming as I now have a fine selection of underglazes here!
