I extended an invitation to TriCity Potters to join me in my studio last Saturday. Last year we had such fun. Only four friends were free to come this time but actually it was just fine, with lots of plates, tiles and space. On Thursday Linda Lebrun and Gay Mitchell came here to use my slab roller to make lots of plates and 6″ tiles for the group, in both red and white clay. I have umpteen wheel-thrown, bisqued moulds and a tile-cutter. So the painting get-together was no extra work for me – well not much.
On Saturday these two, plus Ysabella Choung and Felicia Hsieh were able to choose plates, tiles or both for their day of painting. Also, because the ware wasn’t totally dry yet they could opt for my slips or the underglazes ‘Raiders’ usually use. For Felicia, who hadn’t used coloured earthenware slips before, I did a quick demo of painting, paper resist and sgraffito. This is her photo of that.
While they all painted in varied ways I was working on some of my current group of jugbirds. I do enjoy getting to know people better by wording alongside them.
The weather was warm enough for us to share our lunch outside on the covered deck. Thanks group for your contributions!
Here is their day’s work drying. The first/bisque firing will be turned on tomorrow. Watch for cheerful, bold results when glazed .. soon.
