Gill’s New Pots

This latest glaze firing was just a mixture of whatever I had made during August. I knew I needed to get some more jugbirds made, I started on orders for teeny plates, I threw with marbled clay and I made a selection of blue things.. just because. With the Raiders’ plates I had the kiln filled.

Blue plates? I really wanted to make another one of the big deep pasta dishes after I’d mailed Sarah hers. Who’d like it? I made two teeny plates to match, then a birthday one for my neighbour after she told me her favourite colour is blue, and then there’s a stripey one.

I added some green stain to my off-white earthenware (Georgie’s Wonder White which is compatible with D’Arcy’s red) and, really just for fun and the pleasure of trimming to reveal what has happened, I threw a plate and a bowl. The three clays shrank equally so they’re successful. But the underside of the plate is more interesting than the top. Plus I should add more stain next time I play with this.

The Layout app has allowed me to show the teeny plates in two photos instead of eight. Tell me which combinations of slips and designs you like best.

My newest jugbirds are a Goldfinch, a Grosbeak, a Pileated Woodpecker and a Red Cardinal.

Finally there’s another ‘Egg Box’ like the ones Jonathon suggested I make to accompany all my birds. They are fun to make.
