Was at the Shaw Centre (our studios) before 9am. The bisque is done but we had to leave it all day to cool.
I threw parts for one of my ‘half-pipe’ jugs and a teapot. For the first time I was able to assemble and finish the whole jug (3 wheelthrown sections) by 5pm – all done in one day! The teapot tomorrow perhaps. Sandi maded cone pads for the salt and Claude mixed up some wadding. So tomorrow we’ll empty the bisque kiln and all those who want a piece in the salt firing will glaze (just interiors with thin shino for me) and apply wadding. We hope to pack the salt kiln late in the day.
Brenda and I walked over to Plainsman clay to pay for our first week’s supplies – just two boxes of clay for me. Fascinating detritus all over the grounds, bricks, shards, bits of salt glazed sewer pipe.
I seem to have a cold, and felt rotten so didn’t get around to mixing up a bucket of my shino. I brought some from home and that might do for the first load. 7pm the local potters etc were invited to come and see our presentations. Had to scrounge supper in the kitchen there..
I gave my power point presentation on my clay history and why I make jugbirds and I think the others liked it. We also heard and saw work by Claude Morin, Sukjin Choi, Leigh Merritt and Kaitlyn. The rest will present next Monday.
